There are only three virgin rainforests left in Europe, and one of them is a 90-minute drive from Podgorica. Our jeep safari to Biogradska Gora is not really about the jeep — it is about what the jeep lets you reach: a farm breakfast you will still talk about at home, a glacial lake ringed by ancient trees, and mountain ridges no rental car should ever attempt. Here is exactly how the day unfolds, hour by hour.
How the day looks, hour by hour
We meet at 8:30 sharp at Podgorica Bus Station, where your guide and driver wait with the jeeps, and head up the highway towards Kolašin. At 9:30 we stop at a local farm for breakfast: traditional Montenegrin cheeses produced in the Kolašin region, priganice (fried dough pillows) dipped in honey or jam, and coffee, tea or homemade juices prepared by our host. Around 10:30 we enter Biogradska Gora National Park, and from 11:00 to 12:30 walk the easy, flat loop around Lake Biograd — a pristine glacial lake surrounded by ancient forest and wildlife. The afternoon (13:30–16:30) belongs to the off-road part: the scenic ridge of Bjelasica, mountain pastures, panoramic viewpoints unreachable by regular car, and a relaxed picnic lunch in the fresh mountain air. By 17:30–18:00 you are back at Podgorica Bus Station, full of mountain air and photographs.
Do I need to be fit for this tour?
No. The lake walk is an easy, flat trail of about 1.5 hours; the rest of the day you are in the jeep enjoying the scenery. The tour is family-friendly from age 7 — the lake loop is easy for kids, and the jeep ride itself is the part children usually love most.
What does €110 include?
The price of €110 per person covers the licensed guide, jeep transport with an experienced 4x4 driver, farm breakfast, outdoor lunch in the mountains, travel insurance, the Biogradska Gora National Park entrance ticket and souvenir photos from the trip (downloadable afterwards at no extra cost). Families of 5 or more get a family discount. The only thing not included is getting to the meeting point at Podgorica Bus Station.
What if it rains?
Light rain does not stop us — it makes the old forest even more magical. In case of severe weather the tour is rescheduled or refunded.
