Dejan is an excellent and highly knowledgeable hiking guide. We've done two tours with him, and each one was exceptionally well-organized and memorable. His preparation, route knowledge, and calm leadership gave us a real sense of safety and confidence throughout. His passion for nature and the mountains is truly inspiring.

I recently had the pleasure of going hiking and canyoning in Montenegro with Dejan, an incredible guide. I couldn't be happier with the experience! He was not only extremely knowledgeable about the outdoors, but also shared fascinating insights about Montenegro. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore the stunning landscapes of this beautiful country!

Dejan is the ONLY guide I'll hire when in Montenegro. He's incredibly knowledgable of the region with a wealth of experience in the mountains and he's helped me train for an ascent in the Alps. Beyond that he's very knowledgable about the country and it's history making for great conversations while hiking. If you're looking for hiking, climbing, canyoneering and other outdoor sports, he's your guide.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hikes with Dejan in Prokletije National Park. Dejan was wonderful in choosing walks to suit us, whilst still somewhat fit... we're certainly no longer in our 30s! It was a great mix of challenging and relaxing, with some incredible views.

Destination Trail Guide

What to expect on each route

Durmitor National Park

Durmitor is a UNESCO-listed national park with 18 glacial lakes, of which Crno Jezero (Black Lake) is the most visited. The Bobotov Kuk peak (2,523 m) is accessible to experienced hikers, and trails skirt the Tara Canyon — the deepest canyon in Europe. Best season: June–September. Difficulty: moderate to demanding.

Biogradska Gora National Park

Biogradska Gora is home to one of only three primeval forests remaining in Europe. Biograd Lake is ringed by trails through beech forest with trees up to 500 years old. Routes are suitable for beginners and families with children — elevation gain is modest and paths are well-marked. Best season: May–October.

Prokletije National Park

The "Balkan Alps" with dramatic limestone towers, alpine meadows and turquoise glacial lakes — challenging multi-day routes and wild, less-traveled trails for experienced hikers.

Komovi Mountain Range

Komovi consists of three peaks — Kom Vasojevićki (2,461 m), Kom Kučki, and Kom Ljevorijanski — with technical routes for experienced hikers. The summits offer views into Kosovo and Albania, and ascents demand good fitness and proper mountain gear. Best season: June–October. Easy-grade alternatives are not available on this terrain.

Morača Mountains

The Morača Mountains rise above the Morača River canyon — one of Montenegro's deepest gorges. Trails pass through dense beech forest and emerge onto ridges with views down into the ravine. The season is long: April–November. Difficulty is moderate, making them a strong choice for active guests who prefer not to tackle the highest peaks.

Maganik & Tresteni Peak

Maganik is one of Montenegro's wildest areas — Tresteni Peak (2,139 m) has no tourist infrastructure and sees only a handful of groups each week. Trails cross the Piva plateau and pass unmarked caves. Recommended for hikers seeking genuine solitude and unmarked terrain. Best season: June–September.

Kučke Planine

Kučke Planine are the closest high mountains to Podgorica — hiking trails start an hour from the capital. Limestone peaks reach 1,800 m, and autumn (September–November) brings spectacular colours without summer heat. Ideal for day hikes departing from Podgorica or Bar.

Boka Kotorska

Hiking above the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor starts from medieval villages and reaches heights where the entire bay is visible below. Routes are short (2–4 hours) and suitable for all fitness levels, with no specialist gear needed. Pairs well with a visit to Kotor Old Town. Best season: March–November.
